How we build this theory test practice
Where the questions come from
The DVSA stopped publishing its live theory test questions in 2012, specifically to stop candidates memorising answers, so the real bank is not available to anyone. Every reputable free practice site, including this one, therefore writes its own questions from the same source material the test is based on:
- The Highway Code, reusable under the Open Government Licence.
- Know Your Traffic Signs, also under the Open Government Licence.
- Published gov.uk figures for the fee, the pass mark and the format.
Our bank currently holds 117 questions across all 14 official topics, and grows over time. Every answer stores the specific Highway Code rule behind it, which is shown to you the moment you choose.
How we keep it accurate
This is safety information, so accuracy comes first. Each question is written against the current Highway Code, including the 2022 hierarchy of road users (rules H1 to H3) that many older question banks still get wrong. Because every question carries its rule reference, it can be checked and updated when the rules change. Where a fact is genuinely uncertain, we leave the question out rather than risk teaching something wrong.
Easy and hard sets
On each topic you can choose an easy set or a hard set. Hard questions are the ones that need precise recall, such as stopping distances, reflective stud colours and specific rule detail. Easy questions are the more conceptual safety judgements. The split lets you build confidence first, then stretch yourself.
The road sign images
The signs in our road signs section are our own simplified drawings, not photographs, made to show the shape and colour clearly. Always check the exact official artwork in Know Your Traffic Signs on gov.uk.
What this is not
This is independent revision practice. It is not the official test, the questions are not the real exam questions, and this site is not affiliated with or endorsed by the DVSA or DVLA. When you are ready for the real thing, book through gov.uk.
Frequently asked questions
Are these the real DVSA theory test questions?
No. The DVSA stopped publishing its live questions in 2012 to stop people memorising answers, and the bank is not public. Our questions are original, written to cover the same topics from the same source material. Practising the reasoning is what prepares you, not memorising a fixed list.
Where do the questions and answers come from?
They are written from The Highway Code and Know Your Traffic Signs, both reusable under the Open Government Licence, plus published gov.uk figures. Every answer cites the specific Highway Code rule so you can check it.
How do you keep it accurate?
Each question is written against the current Highway Code, including the 2022 hierarchy of road users update, and stores its rule reference so it can be checked and updated when rules change. Where a fact is uncertain, we leave the question out rather than risk getting it wrong.
