How the real Florida exam is graded

Florida enforces a 60 minute limit on the ONLINE exam, which is open only to applicants under 18 through an approved third party administrator, and unanswered questions are marked incorrect. FLHSMV publishes no time limit for the in office exam. No rule ends the exam early: with 50 questions and 40 needed, an 11th miss simply makes a pass arithmetically impossible.

This paper allows 95 minutes. That matches the published limit.

What is specific to Florida

Florida writes a subject quota into law: at least 25 questions in the Class E bank must address bicycle and pedestrian safety, which no other state does. Around that sit rules that are genuinely local. A helmet is optional at 21 and over, but only with at least $10,000 in medical coverage, and eye protection stays mandatory for everyone. Drivers under 21 face a 0.02 alcohol limit and a six month suspension rather than the 0.08 that applies to adults. Curfews are set by exact age, 11 p.m. to 6 a.m. at 16 and 1 a.m. to 5 a.m. at 17. The minimum insurance is $10,000 of personal injury protection plus $10,000 of property damage, with no bodily injury liability required at all, which surprises drivers arriving from other states.

How many attempts do you get?

No published waiting period and no published cap on attempts. What the statute does fix is the fee: a re-examination carries a charge, so retakes cost money rather than time.
