Texas motorcycle practice test

25 questions marked at 18 to pass. TxDPS publishes a 70 percent pass mark but does not publish how many questions the real exam has, so we set this paper at 25 and mark it to their percentage. Every answer cites the law behind it. No signup, no email.

25 questions, 40 minutes. The timer starts when you begin, and answers are shown at the end.

About the time limit

This paper allows 40 minutes, and that allowance is ours rather than TxDPS's. We could not find a published time limit for this test, and in practice US knowledge tests are usually not run against a strict clock at a service center. The timer is here so the practice feels like a real sitting, not because the real one ends at 40 minutes.

What is specific to Texas

Texas requires driver education of every first-time applicant under 25, not just teenagers, which catches adults moving from other states. Every applicant must also complete the Impact Texas Drivers video course before the driving exam. There is no points system on a Texas licence at all: instead a driver becomes a habitual violator at four convictions in 12 months. Drivers under 18 face a total wireless ban including hands-free, and the adult supervising a learner commits a criminal offence if they sleep, are intoxicated or are otherwise not paying attention. Posted limits run to 85 mph on some highways, the highest in the country, and annual safety inspections for non-commercial vehicles ended on 1 January 2025.

How many attempts do you get?

Three attempts per application, then a new application and fee. An application is held for 90 days after a first failure. After 90 days, or after three failed exams, a new application is required.

Where these questions come from

This paper draws 24 Texas-specific questions written from that state's own statutes and official handbook, together with 25 on rules that do not vary between states. They are original questions written from the rules themselves, not the examination questions TxDPS uses. This site is not affiliated with or endorsed by TxDPS.
