What to bring for the Florida permit test if you are under 18
A Florida learner's license applicant under 18 needs three Florida-specific things beyond identity documents. First, proof of completing a Driver Education Traffic Safety course: since July 1, 2025 the learner's license statute, s. 322.1615(1)(c) as amended by ch. 2025-104, requires a department-approved driver education course rather than the old four hour drug and alcohol course, and FLHSMV's teen licensing page now lists DETS completion as a requirement. Second, a parental consent form, required for any applicant who is under 18 and unmarried. Third, you must be at least 15. If you are taking the exam online through an approved third-party administrator rather than in an office, add a notarized Parent Proctoring Form and your parent's or guardian's valid Florida driver license number, which the system asks for at the start. Checked in September 2026. Be aware that FLHSMV's own pages currently disagree about the course, because some still describe the superseded TLSAE course; the statute and the teen licensing page are the current authority.
