Texas supervised driving hours, and whether the log is turned in
Texas requires 30 hours of behind-the-wheel practice, of which at least 10 must be at night, with a licensed driver aged 21 or over in the vehicle at all times. TxDPS sets that on top of the driver education course's own in-car component: 7 hours of in-car instruction and 7 hours of in-car observation. The learner license must also be held for at least six months before the provisional license. The requirement is part of the under-18 graduated licensing path; adults aged 18 to 24 must complete an approved driver education course, but TxDPS imposes no supervised hours log on them. One more Texas-only detail that belongs with the hours: the supervising adult commits a criminal offense if they sleep, are intoxicated or are otherwise not paying attention.
